Suggested Course Preparation/Critical Skills: Students need to be able to work independently and in group situations. Being primarily a Lab course, student attendance and punctuality are most important.
Course Description: Architectural Design is a comprehensive study of the history of Architecture, the concepts of Architectural planning and design, and the skills and techniques used by the Architect in designing and planning structures for use by society. It is also designed to prepare students for University/College programs that prepare students for professional careers in Architecture, Engineering, Design, City Planning, Construction Management, and related fields of study. It is a yearlong course that meets the University of California entrance requirement for one year of Visual/Performing Arts.
Students who complete the course with a letter grade of “C” or higher will receive three units of college credit issued thru the San Mateo Community College District.

Major Projects/Assignments: Students will learn the latest releases of AutoCAD and related Computer-Aided-Design programs. Students will attain the technique and skill needed to complete floor plans, elevations, and detail drawings of residential structures.
Approximate homework assigned daily: Minimal homework as students are expected to complete assignments on student stations in the CAD Lab.

Computer-Aided-Design Advanced (CAD) Year Course10 Credits

Prerequisite: Architectural Design 1 2
Suggested Course Preparation/Critical Skills: Students need to be able to work independently and in group situations. Being primarily a Lab course, student attendance and punctuality are most important.
Course Description: In this course, students will receive in-depth experiences in one or more areas of Computer-Aided-Design. Topics of instruction will be mutually agreed upon by both student and teacher at the beginning of the class. Emphasis is placed on college and career planning, individual instruction, and entry-level employment skills. Students who complete the course with a letter grade of “C” or higher will receive three units of college credit issued thru the San Mateo Community College District. This course may be repeated for additional credit.

Major Projects/Assignments: Students will learn advanced Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) programs. Students will design and complete a full set of working drawings for a single family dwelling of their choice.

Engineering Technology 1-2 Year Course10 Credits

Course Description: Engineering Technology is a one year program, when combined with traditional mathematics and science courses in high school, introduces students to the scope, rigor, and discipline of Engineering. With this knowledge, students will be able to make educated decisions regarding potential careers in the many fields of Engineering.
Major Projects/Assignments: Students will learn the basics of Electricity thru classroom and laboratory activities. Students build and program a micro-controlled robot that will perform various mechanical functions. As part of the class, students will also learn Engineering Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) programs.

Exploring Technology 1-2 Year Course10 Credits

Suggested Course Preparation/Critical Skills: Students need to be able to work independently and in group situations. Being primarily a Lab course, student attendance and punctuality are most important. A student lab fee is assessed for student owned projects.
Course Description: Exploring Technology is a course designed to introduce students to the Industrial Technology/Engineering Pathway. In this year long course, students will explore the many areas of technology by completing activities in Woods, Metals, Plastics. Students will participate in lab activities and construct personal and group projects to illustrate technological concepts. Field trips and guest speakers representing various technological industries will also be included.
Major Projects/Assignments: Students will be required to complete personal and group projects in the various areas covered.

Exploring Technology Advanced Year Course10 Credits

Suggested Course Preparation/Critical Skills: Students need to be able to work independently and in group situations. Being primarily a Lab course, student attendance and punctuality are most important. Computer keyboarding skills are desirable but not required.
Course Description: This course expands on Exploring Technology 1 2. Students and the teacher mutually agree upon advanced projects and experiences at the beginning of the year. Emphasis is on preparation for future training and career exploration.
Major Projects/Assignments: Individual and group projects in the one or more areas of Industrial Technology. As part of the class, students will research careers related to their area of emphasis.
