CCS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2013
Congratulations to all of our team members who qualifed for the Central Coast Section Championships this past weekend at the International Swim Center in Santa Clara!
Of the 77 schools participating, BHS girls took 11th place overall, and our boys took 12th place overall among some very large and talented South Bay high school teams, both public and private. Overall, 299 girls and 306 boys participated.
Leah Goldman brought in the most individual points (37) for the Panthers, taking 1st place in the 100 Fly, with an Automatic All-American time of 53.69. She also took 2nd place in the 200 I.M., with another AAA time of 2:00.61.
Team Captain Marie Maxwell earned 26 points for BHS, with a 5th place in the 500 Free with a time of 5:03.84, as well as a 7th place in the 200 Free, with a time of 1:54.49.
Kawei Tan earned 23 individual points for the team, with a 5th place in the 100 Back (52.15) and 9th in the 200 I.M. (1:54.10).
Joshua Yeager earned 5 points for the team by placing 13th in the 100 Fly (52.75) and 16th in the 100 Back (56.67).
Julie Williams placed 11th in the 100 Breast (1:06.16), earning 6 individual points for the team.
In Boy's Diving, our freshman diver, Max Urbani, among 34 competitors, placed 13th in his first CCS competition, earning 4 individual points. We look forward to Max's future competitions with this impressive start.
RELAY FINALISTS:
The Girl's 200 Medley Relay (Julie Williams, Stephanie Saisi, Leah Goldman, Marie Maxwell) took 10th place. The same team of girls took 8th place in the 400 Free Relay.
The Boy's 200 Medley Relay (Kawei Tan, Walker Pease, Joshua Yeager, Eric Bakar) to 9th place.
The Boy's 200 Free Relay Team (Alessio Iavocone, Justin Sasano, Walker Pease, George Popovic) took 14th place.
The Boy's 400 Free Relay (Joshua Yeager, George Popovic, Eric Bakar, Kawei Tan, took 16th place.

Panther swimmers celebrate a successful PAL finals with Coach Chris
BOYS VARSITY PAL Champs!
Congratulations to all BHS Panther Swimmers for your great swims, best times, CCS qualifying times, and for those who broke Peninsula Athletic League records at the PAL Trials and Finals this week. The Varsity Girls finished second to a strong Menlo Atherton team, and the Boys Varsity won the championship meet!
PAL records broken:
The BHS Boys Varsity 200 Medley Relay (Josh Yeager, Walker Pease, Kawei Tan, Eric Bakar) broke the 2011 record by 2.3 seconds with their time of 1:38.21.
Kawei Tan broke the 27 year old, 1986 Boys Varsity 200 Individual Medley record by .35 of a second with his time of 1:54.87.
Leah Goldman set a new Girls Varsity 100 Backstroke record with a 56.08 (.84 faster than the previous record set in 2010).
All PAL records set by BHS in previous seasons still stand.
It was a great meet to be at, all the way to the end, with the deafening roar of the crowd during Varsity Boys 4x100 Free Relay, which the Panther Team won!
PANTHER GIRLS' SUCCESS AT CCS!
On Saturday, May 12 at the CCS championships, the BHS girls (Leah Goldman, back; Maddy Gebhard, breast; Naomi Thomas, fly; and Kristin Brennand, free) won the 200 Yard Medley Relay and set a new CCS record in the event, earning All American honors as well.
Individually:
Naomi Thomas came in 4th in 100 yard butterfly and top 16 in 100 breaststroke
Leah Goldman won the 100 breaststroke and took 4th in the 200 Individual medley
Maddy Gebhard took second in the 100 breaststroke
Kristen Brennand was a top finisher in 200 IM and 100 free
Marie Maxwell was a top 16 finisher in 200 and 500 yard freestyle.
Naomi, Leah and Maddy earned individual All American honors for their achievements.
Overall BHS took 4th place at CCS, one of the fastest high school swimming competitions in the country.
